To become a pilot, one must first complete theoretical (Ground Classes) and practical training (Flight Training), as well as pass written exams and flying tests. After completing the training successfully, all training records and exam results are submitted to the licensing authority (DGCA in India) for the issuance of a Commercial Pilot Licence.

To enrol in the Pilot Training course, you must have completed Class 10+2 (or equivalent) with Math and Physics as compulsory subjects. After graduating, one may still enrol in CPL courses.

Pilot Training consists of seven examinations that must be passed. The four core exams—Air Regulations, Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, and Technical General—require much reading and comprehension. Depending on the type of aircraft you choose to train on during your flight training, there are two technical specific exams. The DGCA administers these tests. You must pass the RTR Licence examination administered by the Wireless Planning Coordination Wing (WPC) India in order to receive your Certificate of Proficiency – Radio Telephony (Restricted) – COP-RTR in addition to the requirements listed above.

Before you can begin your Pilot Training course, you must first obtain a Class II medical examination from DGCA-approved medical examiners. As a result, before applying for your Pilot License, you must first obtain your Class I medical examination.
